Love is the only explanation for the little venture my husband, John, went on in the last 6-9 months. I don’t know exactly when it started but one day he told me that he was writing a song for me. At the time we were discussing my website, logo, branding…all the good business stuff. I thought he meant he was writing a song for my website, not me. Honestly, I’m embarrassed to admit it but I didn’t think much about it. My husband is full of these amazing ideas. He is a dreamer (well, we both are) and so creative. I didn’t think this song would make it further than on paper. I should have known otherwise though. I know my husband better than that. Yes, he is a dreamer, but he has amazing initiative. Side story, he actually told one of his friends when he first saw me that I would be his girl *blushing*. Obviously he made that happen. Here we are almost twelve years later after that first time we met. Anyway, there’s a point to this post.
Back in August or September, John had our friend Chase Schaeffer come over to our house to work on this song. John had the lyrics and melody but he needed someone to write the music. See, John doesn’t even play an instrument and aside from maybe being part of choir in school he has no formal music training. I still remember that Chase came over on a rainy Sunday afternoon and as I sat in the office editing I could hear Chase playing on his guitar the melody John was singing…and it sounded so good to my ears! Chase left with the lyrics in hand with a plan of recording with another friend, Eric Lee Burkert. About a month ago, John emailed me from work that the final song was finished and recorded! He emailed me the file and as I listened I couldn’t believe it but yet, I wasn’t surprised. At this point I still thought he had written this song for my business website, not for me. The surprise was when he told me that it was for me. Talk about making a girl feel special…and humbled.
So why this post? Well, the song, “Be You”, has been loaded on my website for a few weeks now and this post is overdue. If my husband went through all the work of giving me a finished product, a beautiful song, the least I can do is share it with all my friends, clients and blog readers, right? It is amazing having someone that loves me just the way I am. This is a focus of mine when I go to sessions–to photograph each one of you just the way you are. It is always my goal to leave “breathing room” for you to be you. That’s how I capture those authentic expressions and moments that speak to your heart and mine.
Head on over to the main website–check out my work and “Be You”. Just a note, John is not the one singing (Chase is), however, John is working on another that he’ll be singing. I hope you like it as much as I do.
Just for fun…once again I have a couple orchids in bloom!
