In the past month as I have been in communication with one of my college girlfriends, our conversations have gone a lot like this:

my friend: “I can’t believe he’s one!” (referring to her son who just turned one year old in July)
me: “I can’t believe she’s one!” (referring to my own daughter who turned one in June)

It is surreal. That first year is so fun, so challenging, so rewarding, so life-changing for a family, so incredibly amazing! It is no lie when people say it goes by SO fast. It does! It feels like just yesterday when I was getting to photograph Mr. H for his six months portraits.

I was so honored that my friend invited me to be a part of her little boy’s special day. We went out to their backyard for a few portraits of Mr. H on his birthday and then headed inside (where it was cool) to celebrate with his parents, grandparents, aunts and uncle. He has so much love and support in his life from his tightly-knit family!

He was a not-so-messy cake smasher. His parents have taught him well…although he got some “help” digging into the cake at one point. As my son likes to say (and picked up from somewhere, I don’t know), “if your hands are dirty it means you are having fun!”I haven’t said it in a while: I LOVE what I do! It’s a true blessing getting to share in special moments with families. I’m very thankful for each and every family that invites me in.
